Dozy Writes: The Next Chapter

I realised the other day that it has been almost five months since I published my first blog post on my Dozy Writes website. It’s been great fun coming up with ideas each week and seeing how each post has been received.

I still have lots of ideas to discuss and many, many more stories to tell and I will continue sharing them with you but I wanted to let you know that I’ll be reducing the frequency of my blog posts to once a month.

This is mainly so I can focus on some of my other projects that I am currently working on including Horatio Kemp Investigates, a mystery set on the banks of Loch Ness in Scotland. You may have read a couple of excerpts from Horatio’s story a few weeks ago but if you didn’t get a chance, you can catch up with it here.

As well as using the time to write about Horatio’s adventures, I will also be focusing on my biography writing service which you may have read about a couple of weeks ago.

I am also about to start an exciting new venture in palm reading which has been a fascinating journey that I have been learning about for some time. For those of you who might scoff, allow me to clarify that I don’t believe that our palms tell us our future but I do think that they can tell us what type of person we are, as well as highlighting our worries and strengths.

I am excited to share this with others and help them to uncover their own potential and I will be sharing more about this on social media over the next few weeks but in the meantime you can find some information on my new Ko-fi page – this is still in development so bear with me as I get everything in order.

As you can see, I have a lot going on so I thought that this might be a good time to reflect on some of the stories and musings that I have shared up to this point.

Read about how I randomly went from attending an open evening for a Human Resources course to signing up to cut hair in I’m a Barber Girl – part one and I’m a Barber Girl – part two.

Nod along in agreement in Growing Old is Mandatory – Growing Up is Optional where I share the challenges I have experienced as I get older whilst remembering that growing old is a privilege that not everyone has.

Perhaps you would like to reread my poem The Vulnerability of Ankles which I wrote after seeing an exposed ankle bone on one of the many rough sleepers in Manchester.

If you prefer your poems a little bit more upbeat then Energy Vampires will be right up your street. As well as talking about energy vampires in human form, I also share my suspicions about a sneaky energy vampire that we all have in our homes – the TV.

Talking of technology, my post The Loss of the Landline: The Impact of Technology on Community Life talks about how some breakaway sheep made me realise the importance that the landline telephone still holds in a community. Continuing with the theme of phone calls, you can read about my argument for speaking on the phone instead of sending written messages in The Lost Art of The Phone Call

Read about how I have discovered voice notes as a decent alternative to phone calls in Redefining Debates: Prioritising Understanding Over Instant Responses. In fact, I may even have persuaded myself that voice notes can give me more time to step back and understand someone else’s point of view.

Catch up with my most recent post Let’s Talk About Sex: The Importance of Honest Conversations where I share my experience of losing my virginity – sorry Dad – and encourage you all to be more honest when talking about these experiences. Ironically, Facebook wouldn’t even let me share the link to this post because they thought it was spam whereas their targeted advertising of crotchless panties and other monstrosities from Temu is entirely acceptable.

Another recent post, Embracing Nudity: My Search For Body Positivity tells the story of my journey to improve my body image and separate sex from nudity, something that got a bit confused when I inadvertently found myself naked in a cruising area.

Maybe you would like to revisit the story of the many ridiculous items I have found myself collecting over the years which is detailed in my post From Stamps to Wedding Dresses: Stories of a Collector.

And whilst we’re talking about collecting items, you can read about my addiction to stationery items in The Symbolism of Stationery: A Nostalgic Reflection. In this post you will find me trying to justify my stationery habits whilst telling you that I had it all under control. OK, I did recently splurge on a pack of knock-off, multicoloured Sharpie pens which I really didn’t need but it’s a work in progress.

On a more serious note you can read a post I had published on Tiny Buddha called The Big Impact We Don’t Realise We Make Every Day. In this post I talk about how my kindness to someone who was suicidal was repaid many years later when I myself felt tired of living.

Ever since having that experience I have tried to find meaning in everything that I do and this seems to be particularly true when I’m crafting. In Embracing Imperfection Through the Art of Crafting I talk about how my recent homemade magazine holder highlighted how far I’d come since my first marriage when I had to have everything matching and looking perfect.

I build on this idea in Crafting Transferable Skills: Life Lessons from a Crochet Project. Who knew that crafting could be so full of revelations?

On a lighter note, you can laugh along at my attempts to get a decent profile picture in Strike a Pose. The accompanying video highlights that I will do anything for a laugh.

And finally, in Travel Sick: My Adventures With Motion Sickness and the ironically titled follow up, Conquering the North Sea: A Triumph Over Motion Sickness, you can read about my lifelong issues with chronic travel sickness and how, after falling in love with my partner A.P, I ended up sailing a yacht up the North Sea.

I have really enjoyed taking a moment to look back on everything that I have shared so far. Sometimes I have been so busy working on the next two or three posts in advance that I haven’t taken a moment to stop and appreciate what I have written.

This is a good point for me to tell you that I am very grateful for your support. Your feedback, whether it be in person or through various interactions on my website and social media platforms, has been invaluable and is very much appreciated.

If you have enjoyed reading my work and would like to support me further you can buy me a coffee through my Dozy Writes Ko-Fi page. All donations are very much appreciated.

I look forward to entertaining you in the future, albeit on a slightly less frequent basis.

Totally agreed, Donna. Blogging mustn’t become a chore or something that applies pressure – it takes away the whole point. When you list all your posts like that, it does look a fair amount. Thanks for all the entertainment. I look forward to reading more as and when you post new bits. I hope you can use this blog as a great reference to find new opportunities.
